Bewdley Tennis Club Centenary

Bewdley Tennis Club is celebrating its’ 100th year this year!

The Club was founded in 1924, and on Saturday 14th June that year it was officially opened.

To mark our Centenary we are having a Tournament and Garden Party on Saturday 15th June.

The club was initially set up on a 2 acre site donated by Alderman HN Frost, who was one of the driving forces in the creation of the club, founding President and Mayor of Bewdley in 1927.

The original entrance was from the river end of the club, but by purchasing some extra land along the road side from Mr Clarke a new entrance was created, an extra court was laid (making 5 in total) and the gate was installed; this is the one we still see today.

Bewdley Tennis Club continues to develop and thrive, there are now seven floodlit courts allowing members to play all year round as well as a clubhouse to socialise in.

The club continues to field many teams in the Hereford and Worcester leagues and the Junior section is expanding and competing successfully across the County.

The values that the club was built on – a love for tennis and a camaraderie amongst members certainly remains the same 100 years later and let’s hope that continues for another 100 years and beyond.

A number of activities to mark the Centenary are planned throughout the forthcoming year.

We are kicking off with a Mixed Doubles Tournament and Garden Party on Saturday 15th June.

The Tournament is only open to members, but we would be delighted to welcome non playing members past and present, adults & children, to the afternoon tea when we will celebrate this fantastic achievement and take some group photos as a reminder of the day.

So please do come along and bring friends and family.
